The Stand Omnibus due in June

Marvel's The Stand has posted the following at their facebook page:
Due out in June:
STAND OMNIBUS HC SLIPCASE $150
(W) Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (A) Mike Perkins (CA) TBD
The Stand is a classic tale of good vs. evil, loss weighed against redemption and despair pitted against hope. It is an apocalyptic vision of man’s battle to save life against a worldwide plague of death. When the viral strain dubbed “Captain Trips” works its way across the face of the country, the painfully few survivors are launched into a nightmare that’s only just begun – but for the Dark Man, Randall Flagg, it’s a dream come true. Based on the masterpiece of apocalyptic horror by celebrated author Stephen King, this lavish adaptation is packed with extras in a two-volume slipcased set!

  1. I was not a huge fan of the comics, but they definitely had their moments, and Marvel can rely on me buying a copy of this.

By the way, if it goes the same way as it went with the first Dark Tower omnibus, Amazon will have it for pre-sale at the vastly reduced price of $100. They don't seem to be listing anything yet, but I'll keep my eyes peeled for it.

  2. I've been waiting for this. I don't read comics, but I plan to read the WHOLE thing.

  3. I suspect it will read a lot better when read as one really big chunk. I read it month-by-month, and there were times when it was a bit of a slog.

Certain aspects of the artwork also didn't work for me. But the art was also thoroughly awesome from time to time.

So overall, for any serious fan of "The Stand" (which you certainly are), I'd say it's well worth buying.

  5. Yes, plans have already been announced. It will be narrated by Kevin Federline, will be available only at Taco Bell, and will cost $445.79.

I've got mine on pre-order! That, and a chalupa.

    Mmm ... chalupa ...

  6. While I think the Stand is okay, like Honk I did have problem with the finale. That's when I thought, well wait, why doesn't Flagg just turn them into running man contestants, it could be his way of toying with them.

I can see it now, Flagg let's Larry and Ralph out of jail. They keep to the alleys until they notice a crowd gathered in the Vegas strip with footlights, stage and everything. Watching all this from alley.

Ralph: Well what do you figure on this?

    Larry: Beats me.

Behind them a glowing cigarette stubb appears in the dark briefly and then is thrown away, a dark figure is behind them. Randall Falgg walks up and joins them watching, unknown to them ala Groucho Marx.

Larry: You think maybe something's about to go down?

    Flagg: I don't know.

Larry and Ralph turn to slowyly to Flagg.

Flagg: Only one way to find out (takes out microphone, speaks into it) Test, test, Alph Baker Charlie, okay ready on your end?...Hit it!

Flood lights come on, band strikes up Johnny Carson theme, Flagg Stephen Colbert's his way to the stage were Loyd's waiting and introduces America's favorite new game show...

    Crowd: RUNNING MAAANNN!

    Crowd cheers, Flagg waves.

Flagg: And now, let's meet our new contestants, Ralph Brentor from...and, live from New York, you know him as the singer of such classics as Baby Can You Dig Your Man, let's a big Vegas welcome for, Larry Underwood.

Larry and Ralph look back they way they came, Rattty and see a posses blocking their retreat, they walk to stage wavign feebly.

Flagg: the rules of the game are simple...

Each is given a gun and time limit, you can take it from there.
