A Face In The Crowd ebook/audiobook

stephenking.com has posted  news that Craig Wasson will read the Stephen King story,  "A Face In The Crowd."  Wasson is one of my favorite readers.  It is coauthored with Stewart O'Nan.

stewartonan.com notes:
"The writing team that delivered the bestselling Faithful, about the 2004 Red Sox championship season, takes readers to the ballpark again, and to a world beyond, in an ebook original to be published on August 21, 2012."
The synopsis:
Dean Evers, an elderly widower, sits in front of the television with nothing better to do than waste his leftover evenings watching baseball. It’s Rays/Mariners, and David Price is breezing through the line-up. Suddenly, in a seat a few rows up beyond the batter, Evers sees the face of someone from decades past, someone who shouldn’t be at the ballgame, shouldn’t be on the planet. And so begins a parade of people from Evers’s past, all of them occupying that seat behind home plate. Until one day Dean Evers sees someone even eerier...

  4. I just checked Amazon.com in the hope of pre-ordering the e-book, but, it's currently unavailable. Can't wait to download this story!

I've just read "In the Tall Grass". Dr. Dave gives it four buckets of blood (ala the rating system of Joe Bob Briggs).

With Mr. King publishing so many short stories, I can't wait for his next collection. Does anyone have a clue as to when this book will be published?

    1. There doesn't appear to be one on the schedule, but there are certainly enough recent stories out there to make a new collection possible.

A tentative table of contents could include the following:

      Ur
      Throttle
      Morality
      Premium Harmony
      Blockade Billy
      Herman Wouk Is Still Alive
      Under the Weather
      Mile 81
The Little Green God of Agony
      The Dune
      In the Tall Grass
      A Face in the Crowd

Plus, there are probably some that would be making their first appearance in the new collection (the way N. msde its first appearance in Just After Sunset).

As if that wasn't enough, there is always the possibility that older stories like The Crate, The Night of the Tiger, and Weeds could finally sneak their way into one of the collections.

Whenever it finally appears, it's going to be a strong collection; King's been on a roll with short fiction lately. (And like you, David, I thought In the Tall Grass was excellent.)

    2. I also read it and even though the first part was pretty interesting, the second part disappointed me. Too predictable, alas. I liked The Dune more. In both cases the premise is simple but I found The Dune more interesting and less gross than In the Tall Grass.

  6. It's good to know others are waiting for the next short story book. I agree that I think with all he's published lately that King should put them all in a book, "Face in the Crowd" included.

Kevin Quigly of Chanrel House has written an article about this very subject and I was delighted to find a post on this blog about that very article. Quigly makes a lot of interesting suggestions for how a future short story collection should go and is worth the time of any King fan.
