The classic science & sci-fi magazine OMNI is now available on the Internet Archive. OMNI was co-founded by Kathy Keeton and Penthouse publisher Bob Guccione in 1978 and was published until 1995. The magazine featured the work of Ray Bradbury, Stephen King, William S. Burroughs, Isaac Asimov, and many others. After going out of print, OMNI lived on as one of the first webzines, from 1996 to 1998.
In 1986 Omni excerpted Firestarter and published the short story "The End Of The Whole Mess."

  1. Gosh dang it Reverend, you've made me homesick for a time gone by. Good show!

That commercial is an artifact in more ways than one, at least for me. Does anybody remember when sci-fi used to daring and challenging like those ads, instead of being beholden to the shrine of the blockbuster?

    1. What makes it worse for me is after the clip there's a video link in there, if you look carefully, for the same Omni promo along with one from the Sci-Fi (not...I can't bring myself to write how it's spelled now) sometime circa, I'm gonna guess 1991 or thereabouts.

What makes it sad is reading this wiki article on the channel that says THIS:

Wiki: In the past, the channel concentrated on classic science fiction (SciFi) shows. However NBC has altered its schedule in the past few years to expand the lineup, and the channel now airs shows including WWE's SmackDown, changing from the original niche programming to offerings towards more general-entertainment.[19]

What that means, as I take it, is that there might be a general move AWAY from the Sci-Fi, Horror and Fantsay that made the channel such a joy in the first place and toward...Heaven only knows, but I doubt it'll be the same.
