Jeremy Kay at Screen Daily reports that John Causack will star in Stephen King's CELL. Causack aslo starred in the King film, 1408. The film is being produced by Richard Saperstein, Brian Witten and Shara Kay.
The Screen play is co-written by Stephen King, "with The Last House On The Left screenwriter Adam Alleca. The producers are currently out to directors." Kay quotes Saperstein as saying, “Cell is an intelligent psychological thriller that delivers on both a visceral and emotional level.”

Is it starting to feel like there are more movies that are "going" to be made than movies already out there?
ReplyDeleteThe Stand, IT, Pet Sematary remake, carrie remake, Under The Dome (HBO), Cell, The Dark Tower (maybe), and it goes on and on.
In my most recent news-roundup column, which included a brief bit about "Mercy," I joked about wondering what new movie would be announced between now and the next installment of the column. I prognosticated that it would be a remake of Christine.

Yes, there are indeed a mildly staggering number of King movies in some stage of development, but so few of them seem to be actually making real progress toward filming that I feel a bit like one of the people hearing the boy cry wolf over and over.
There's Carrie to look forward to, at least. We KNOW that one is for real; I've already got a poster for it on my wall!

The entry of any person involved in the Last House on the Left worries me.
ReplyDeleteThat any person thought this abortion of a movie should be remade gives me shuddering pause.
The person responsible for drafting the new screen treatment obviously knows little about what makes good horror.
I've seen neither version, but I know for a fact that King thought the remake was one of the best movies released that year; it made his top ten list. I think he spoke about it at length in an essay called "What's Scary," too, although I might be wrong about that.

I came across your blog while looking for scary movies, and I have to say I’m excited to hear that they’re making Cell into a movie. A friend I work with at DISH got me into Stephen King’s work, and so far I’m really enjoying it. I’ll have to check out 1408, too, and see if I like that King-Cusack combo. I can rent it from Blockbuster @Home, which ships fast enough that I should have the movie in time to watch next weekend. If I like it, then I’ll definitely check out Cell when it comes out.
