The Hollywood Reporter has news. . . Haven has been renewed for a fourth season.
Etan Vlessing writes,
Haven has averaged 2.4 million total viewers and among adults 18-49, attracted 942,000. The current third season has also seen the drama's best adults 25-54 average, with 1.2 million.
"We couldn’t be happier to see the story of Audrey Parker and the creepy, quirky town of Haven continue next year. Season three has hit a creative and critical high and we’re very excited to see where the talented production team takes our colorful cast of characters led by the perfect trifecta of Emily Rose, Eric Balfour and Lucas Bryant in season four," said Stern in a statement.Quick question. . . who's watching and who's dropped out ?
I haven't watched any of the third season yet; I keep seeing 'em sitting there where I've got them all recorded, and saying, "I should watch one of those." But then I realize that the odds are good that the episode will be mediocre, and I find something more appealing to do.
ReplyDeleteI'll get around to them eventually. But from what I've heard, this season has been no better than the first two, so I'm not too excited about it.
I like the idea of this sho0w but it has progressively gotten worse, I don't know if it's b/c its on sci-fi that they have to make it cheesy on purpose but it's getting heavy on the cheese. I thought the first season was good, the second season started to make me laugh when every episode ended with some sort of sad song and shots of the characters being sad. This new season I think they are just writing bad dialogue on purpose.
ReplyDeleteIt's a missed opportunity.

Yeah, the sad-song thing got old quick. It's almost like it's a contractual obligation of some sort: "At 40:37 into each episode, mediocre downbeat indie song will be played, or cancellation will be immediate result."
DeleteThe score is also a big part of the problem. Most of the time, it sounds like sitcom music. Then, it'll get serious so that the audience knows whatever is happening isn't supposed to be funny. Very jarring, tonally; doesn't work.
The fact is -- by which I mean, my deeply-held opinion is -- that this is a poorly-produced, poorly-written show that is SKINO (Stephen King In Name Only). It's obviously made on the cheap and I kinda wish it would just go away; the sooner the better.
When I consider the fact that "Freaks and Geeks" and "Firefly" got one season and this one is getting a minimum of four, it just makes me kinda sad.
Ha! We just finished Firefly for the first time last month. Except for that "save the whore house" A-team episode it was great.
DeleteThe in name only thing doesn't bother me as much that it "could" be a great show.
ScyFy doesn't really seem to be interested in making great shows though.
I could be wrong but besides Battlestar I
haven't watched anything else on there.
At least I get to see great shots of Nova Scotia once in awhile.

Farscape was pretty good, so they had that one under their belt too. Heck, even the Stargate shows were at least competent.
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, for the most part, they've done nothing worthwhile other than Battlestar Galactica, and how that show managed to be THAT good on that channel seems increasingly miraculous.
Gotta single myself out here folks, 'cause I actually LIKE the show believe it or not.
ReplyDeleteSure, some of it's plots are just ludicrous, the SFX are junk & the acting often leaves a lot to be desired, but I still enjoy it.
No shame in that! I've found myself liking things that my rational mind knew was basically garbage.
DeleteI'd love to know what sort of residual checks King gets for the show. They must be fairly decent; and he'll keep getting them in perpetuity! Good work if you can get it.
