Esquire has a great article titled: "Why Stephen King Is the Most Underrated Literary Novelist of Our Time." Which is a mouthfull in itself.
.Benjamin Percy states that King is underated because he "knows exactly what scares you most" -- absolutely right! And, Percy says, "fear is a more important American genre than King's critics think." RIGHT!
.Unfortunately, years ago, King compared himself a literary Big Mac. I'll bet he now wishes he hadn't said that. The truth is, many critics don't take King serious. And, Percy is absolutely right, they don't take the entire horror genre serious.
