Do you want to go Under The Dome?  Star News Online posted news today that Wilmington agent, Vanessa Neimeyer is at work hiring background actors for Under The Dome.  (Set to premiere 10pm, Monday, June 24)

The article notes:
Its producers have applied to film in Southport, its film liaison, Cindy Brochure, said Wednesday.
Producers are interested in casting people 30 and older with diverse backgrounds. Some extras are likely to appear frequently, according to the Facebook post.
(For more on extras casting, visit facebook.com/VanessaNcasting.
Extras will appear alongside actors Dean Norris (“Breaking Bad”), who will play the lead role Big Jim, a town councilman and owner of a used car dealership. “Twilight’s” Rachelle Lefevre was recently cast to play Julia, an investigative reporter who just moved to town with her husband, a doctor.

Casting extra's is good news, since it means they are looking for a big picture feel.  Small TV shows use the same actors in tight, indoor scenes.  Hopefully this project will have a BIG feel to it, representing an entire community, not just a few locals.

  1. You mention a "BIG feel" to the picture. I could be wrong, but maybe it's this "BIG feel" that so any fans believe is missing from King films. That they are missing from a lot of his film work I won't deny (Firestarter is the best example I know, and just what two great actors like George C. Scott and Martin Sheen try to lend as much dignity to their scenes and yet nothing comes together). The interesting thing for me though is how films with such miniscule casts like Green Mile and "Mist" have the look and tone of epics.

Whatever makes for that "BIG feel" of the best of King is something more than just the number of names on a cast list, nor necessarily the pace at which a film moves.

The question here becomes what is the real "BIG feel" and what's in the eye of the beholder.

  2. Chris,
    interesting.
I thought The Stand felt "BIG" and was pretty well done. I don't know why it is not better regarded by King fans.

  3. I thought The Stand (we're talking about the miniseries, right?) was okay enough. Only thing I felt was off is I never associated Flagg with the Mullet.

  4. Yeah, Flagg and Frannie were both let downs. (Yes, mini-series). I think a lot of people just don't like anything Garris does because of Sleepwalkers
