The Face Of BIG JIM

Crucial to the Under the Dome series is a believable bad guy.  One you really love to hate.  Dean Norris has landed that role and will play Big Jim.

ew.com notes:
Norris will play politician and car dealership owner James “Big Jim” Rennie, who seizes an opportunity to take control of his small town Chester’s Mill when it’s sealed off from the rest of the world by a mysterious transparent force field. The casting comes on the heels of CBS signing Pan Am actor Mike Vogel to play the show’s main character, former Army officer Dale “Barbie” Barbara. Other cast members include Britt Robertson, who plays a local waitress, and Natalie Martinez, who will play an ambitious sheriff’s deputy.

  1. love the actor ... and the character big jim rennie ... and most of the book. aside from the ending, which felt a bit like a guy who knew he'd written himself into a corner and decided "this" is just the best way to end this before it goes on forever ... was the lack of confrontation between dale Barbara and big jim. I kept expecting, the way it was written, to see this giant scene unfold between dale and jim, and to see it conclude without THAT ... well, it totally bummed me out. =)

i'm confident norris will bring a great performance. I look forward to it.

  2. Seeing how Norris handles a performance on Breaking Bad, it's obvious the role is in the hands of a capable performer.

The question to ask now is about the writer. The biggest caution for me is the way Rennie is portrayed in the novel and the challenge Norris and the writers will have working with character.

Rennie in the book is, let's face it, a buffoon, and not really one of King's most impressive villains, hell Donati and the staff of Quitter's Inc would make mince meat out of him.

The challenge then is to make him and his son a genuine imposing threat while keeping in mind they are small fish compared to the REAL threat behind the Dome.

Also, I hope they leave the politics behind at least as much as possible as a lot of it was old by the time the book was written.

"Politics always change, good stories never do," - Stephen King, It.

I am hoping to see f they do something good with the REAL threat behind the Dome, maybe get a better ending this time.

  3. I agree with the comment that said the ending was not strong. King did seem to have written himself into a corner. The aliens provided nothing more than a means to put up the dome. Not motives. And, what worries me: No aliens cast! Meaning that we once again willnot get a good explanation to what in the world is going on.
