Vogel Cast As Dale Barbara

Deadline reports that Mike Vogel has been selected to play former Army lieutenant Dale Barbara (Barbie).

simonandschuster.com offers this character bio:
Barbie, a drifter, ex-army, walks with a burden of guilt from the time he spent in Iraq. Working as a short-order cook at Sweerbriar Rose is the closest thing he’s had to a family life. When his old commander, Colonel Cox, calls from outside, Barbie’s burden becomes the town itself.

  1. Well, they might have found someone to play "Barbie" yet I'll swear that's Ken.

    ......I had to say it.

  2. i'd like to have high hopes for the show, but being on a major broadcast channel scares me a bit. i tire of the same old cookie cutter copies of carbon copies the big three (4 w/fox) all hope will become the next Lost.

most shows, like Revolution, i can stick with for a few episodes, but quickly tire of thin, redundant plots they stretch simply to have enough episodes to shove into a dvd case and sell for $30-40.

tv always seems to be about trends. i want to "hope" they've finally taken the cue from the many fine cable shows out there. i'm not talking about the restrictions which might allow the cable to be more "open" than broadcast ... i simply mean the writing. good writing can make up for a whole heap of restrictions that otherwise encumber the broadcast channels.

that's way off the topic of vogel as barbie. i'm only familiar with him from cloverfield, but will be watching with crossed fingers, hoping for a good spin.

    1. I hear what you say, and I don't think it's off topic at all.

One of the things that's sort of starting to bug me is how TV is becoming sort of an extended GQ catalgue in many ways, even in shows that are supposed to have "by nature" gritty edge like Dexter or the Law and Order franchise.

I know image counts for a lot in film and tv, yet I'd argue it's not everything, though I doubt that will stop current broadcast practices.

It's funny how, according to what I've read, you would have seen simialr images being paraded around ancient Rome, especially as it neared the end.

The irony was the art at the time wasn't all that good either, yet the reason for that was everyone, at least those in power, had long since stopped caring....I'll go take my meds now.
