Following up on the post about annoying book covers --
Francisco emailed me from Spain with what he thinks has to be the worst Stephen King book covers in the world -- the Spanish editions! Check them out for yourself. He posted the links in the comments section HERE.
Francisco writes: "I don't know why Stephen King hasn't sued the publisher."

the worst thing is that these were the edition and the times, late 80's first 90's, that I started reading King, when they did new editions and covers for some of these books I throw to the trash can the old editions
ReplyDeletebook covers in Spain go to extremes, since we haven't had a mass market paperback industry the book is even today an object for intellectual and elitistic people with artistic or minimalist covers but when we are talking about horror, covers go straight to the crap field

The "real" sad thing is the cover for It, which I'll swear belongs on the cover of Carrie.
ReplyDeleteThe final insult to injury is the covers look borrowed from those late 70, early 80s schlock flicks MST#K lampoons.
The final irony is, King takes a lot of his tropes from these old midnight movies. I mean, not ALL of them are bad.

Stephen King has been traditionally mistreated in Spain, people who have read him in english said that a 60% of the horror effect is lost in the spanish translations
ReplyDeletein the translation of It they even invented word, they used aserrin instead of serrin, pulverized wood in the carpenters workshops
