Why did this list catch my attention? Because the yahoo link had an image of The Mist. So where's the Mist on this list?

I liked the ending for Signs too. I'm amazed at the people who continue to nit-pick this film. Yes, the director doesn't seem to be doing much these days, however this film stands as genuine accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteYet people will complain of such things as lack of alien technology and the like.
The cure for these complaints is ironic, yet more people should really turn from the film to the so called "real-life" UFO accounts where the alien display the same behavior as they do in Signs.
In fact, I think I know where the inspiration for the movie came from. It was from a UFO story called "The Hopkinsville Goblins", about this family farm besieged by little green bug eyed men. When I went back and revisited that story, I realized, "Oh my gosh, it's Signs!".
As for the Mist, you want to know what I discovered. Darabont was actually reusing an old idea of how own, not King's. Technically the ending to the Mist is a reference to his 1982 remake of The Blob. Seriously, check this out and you'll see what I mean:

ReplyDeleteI don't even know what to say to somebody who thinks "2001" is a good movie but doesn't like the ending. I might find that I simply had nothing to say to them whatsoever.

AND the ending to "The Mist."

DeleteI must disagree with Bryant; AI's ending was frickin' terrible. If it had just faded to black with him underwater wishing on "the blue faerie", it would have been incredibly sad, but so, so much better.
ReplyDeleteIf the movie had ended there, the movie's themes would have been unfulfilled and the story incomplete. I continue to be mystified by how many people misread "A.I."
