1. The Dead Zone
2. Pet Sematary
3. Rage
. . . of course, I'd even listen to The Cannibals on audio, if it existed. I was enjoying that book!
4 books that are endangered species:
(That means they are hard to find, almost disappearing off the face of earth)
1. The Mist, read by Frank Muller. Muller did a recording of The Mist unabridged, and it was great! However, there seems to be copyright problems with the recording, and who knows if it will ever be seen available to the public again.
2. The 1978 edition of The Stand read by Grover Gardner. I think these only existed as tapes.
3. The original King readings of the Dark Tower 1-2. These were great! King's reading was a joy, even though it was obvious he was nervous.
4. An actual physical CD copy of The Stand. It's available on audio through audible, but difficult to find as a CD.
Regarding audio books, I think the happiest I have been was when Needful Things came out. I bought each set of tapes and spent hours in my room listening while I played solitary monopoly. (Yes, I'll tell you the rules if you ask).
I agree on your choice of books that deserve audiobook treatment. Going a little further, I think ing should go back and revisit the cannibals manuscript and turn it into a full fledged novel, and yes I know the reason i say it is 'cause Under The Dome was underwhelming.
ReplyDeleteStill, one of the proudest possesions I own is an audible.com edition of King's reading of Needful Things. I also believe he read from The Wastelands, I'll have to look for a copy of that.
Moving on though, what on earth is solitary monopoly and what are the rules, anyway?

Solitary Monopoly:
ReplyDeleteBuy property and collect rent when you land on your own property.
Pay the bank $200 when you pass go.
(You might have to start with a little more money.)
Allow building of multiple hotels. Use Life money when monopoly money gets too small.
Here in the Uk we cannot even get the audible version of The Stand. I tried to order a physical copy from amazon but they eventually cancelled my order as it never seemed to actually be available.
ReplyDeleteYes King did read The Wastlelands. I have the first three books read by King on cassette and much prefer them to the Frank Muller versions although those are excellent too. I never really liked George Guidalls versions of the later books
There is an audio of Rage. I have no idea where it came from, probably was in a Library cassette of the Bachman Books. But it's not just some guy reading for a blog or something.
ReplyDeletei guess that's probably true about the other 2, too. Maybe. I've never seen either of those.
If you want to trade just email me.
All of Skeleton Crew and NS would be nice to have on cd. On a side note I would like them to re-release all the Everything Eventual as a whole set instead of just having Black Suit/Lt/Bullet,ect. as separate pieces.

Mike,
ReplyDeletethou art correct! There is an audio edition of Rage. I don't know where to go to buy it. It now lands on my "have to get that" list!
From stephenking.com:
RAGE: Formats: Hardcover / Paperback / Audiobook / Trade Paperback

There is an audio of The Dead Zone. It's ISBN-10: 0451155750 for the CD version. But good luck finding one. They're scarcer than hen's teeth.
ReplyDeleteThere was full-cast 'play' version of Pet Sematary aired on the radio here in the UK about 10-12 years ago. I'm pretty sure that is available on cassette if not CD. Not the same as the audiobook, I know, but it's something!
ReplyDeleteI have copy of the cassette version. Two tapes, full cast by BBC distributed by Simon and Shuster Audio
Deleteback in 2003, I scored the King-read DT books at a library sale. Also got DTIV at the same time. Are you sitting down? Paid $5 for the lot!
ReplyDeleteThose ones you mention don't have mass-market audios, but you can find them if you look hard enough. Check out my list of King audio here: http://charnelhouse.tripod.com/skaudio.html
