The Hollywood Reporter has posted news that Mick Garris is hard at work on a new film. This time it's not a Stephen King adaptations, but the story of aliens invading planet earth. Now that's a fresh, new idea! I've been waiting for someone to make a story about alien invasion.
Hollywood Reporter states:
Garris described Invasion as The Outer Limits meets Mad Men, a time of “men in ties and hats and when you thought you could trust the government.”
The script, by A.J. Ferrara, centers on a woman reporter trying to show a male-centric newsroom that she is more than just “boobs and a skirt,” in Garris’ words. In trying to step out of the style pages she’s been relegated to she uncover the truth behind an alien invasion.
Well, for those who to whom Garris still has yet to prove himself, here's another chance.
ReplyDeleteAdmittedly, this idea sounds like something I said earlier about Garris filming in the style of fifties creature feature makers like Roger Corman and William Castle, directors with both advocates and detractors in equal camps.

Chris, I think that is exactly why this might be a great project for Garris.
ReplyDeleteNeeds a new title, since there was a television show called "Invasion" a few years ago. And then "The Invasion," the second remake of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers."
ReplyDeleteI'm just happy to see Garris leaving King alone for once.
Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteI seen to recall another period piece about an alien invasion called DARK SKIES that aired for about a season around 15 years ago. So, what's up with that?
Is this a reworked version of that show perhaps?
I mean, surely the networks can't be that ignorant of another hour drama show with such a similar premise that was broadcast so recently, can they?
Who knows, maybe they can & Garris' new thing is more of an homage to the '60s show THE INVADERS. Anything's possible I suppose.
About the only thing we CAN be certain of judging by the premise, is that it's not a remake of the classic TWILIGHT ZONE episode THE INVADERS...
