I'm always more interested in the people than I am in the monsters.
--Stephen King
I agree. Pretty cool. Also, pretty AND cool.
ReplyDeleteAnd that is the only problem I have with it. Same problem with the cover of the original novel. Carrie is WAY too pretty in that picture. I know, what a thing to complain about, right? But, as we all know, Carrie White is supposed to be a homely girl. Nothing about the picture says homely. Quite the opposite. Hell, given her age, it says jail bait.
In fact, since Chloe Moretz has that same gorgeous tomboy thing going on that a few other actresses have (Kristen Stewart comes to mind, thought Chloe reminds me of another one: young Linda Hamilton), they are going to have to work pretty hard to make her look plain.
Then again, if Charlize Theron can play Aileen Wuornos in "Monster" (holy shit, what a transformation), I've no doubt about Chloe as Carrie.
(a few minutes pass …)
You know … maybe I'm wrong. By the time Carrie gets to the prom, she IS pretty. It is the most magical night of her life and she is transformed. That's what makes what ensues that much more tragic.
Never mind me. I'm talkin' out my ass. That IS a cool poster.
Well, there was never much of a chance that Hollywood was going to go out and find an "ugly" actor for the role, was there? The second choice was Haley Bennett, who is drop-dead gorgeous; we should probably be thankful that they settled for Moretz, who is at least a bit on the unconventional-looking side.
ReplyDeleteBut really, a lot of those concerns can be conquered with good acting and good wardrobe/makeup. Theron in "Monster" is a great example, but heck, look at Sissy Spacek in the original "Carrie"; she was bee-YOO-tiful at that point in her life, but she quite convincingly pulled off playing Carrie as a loser.
No reason Moretz can't do the same.
Heather Matarazzo was born to play Carrie
ReplyDeleteShe really kinda was. A bit too old for the part now, though.
ReplyDeleteWow. Just Googled Heather Matarazzo. I agree. Ten years ago, she would have been perfect.
ReplyDeleteStill got a very good feeling about Chloe, though. I'm sure she will knock our socks off. … Or at least burn our gymnasium down.
'Couse, if this version of CARRIE sticks closer to the book than De Palma's film (and has a bigger budget), she'll burn the whole town down.
maybe I'm a bit delicate, but there is something that I don't like in the face of Haley Bennet is way more gorgeous Chloe Moretz, what about Amanda Seyfried? someone suggest her in the comments section on a post here
ReplyDeleteHeather Matarazzo is one of the most underrated actress now and she isn't so ugly as people think

other young actress that I like is Anna Kendrick although she is so pretty for the role
Amanda Seyfried is way too old to play opposite Moretz, but otherwise she would have made a terrific Sue Snell.
