All Those Scary Lists!

The web is chalk full of Stephen King lists right now.  Here's my summery:

Our Top 7 Scariest Horror Movie Scenes will chill your bones
al.com (Alabama Live)
  • The Shining
  • Mulholland Drive
  • The Thing
  • Psycho
  • Texas Chainsaw Massacre
  • Poltergeist
  • The Blair Witch Project

Ten Best Stephen King books to read on Halloween
ohnotheydidnt
  • Salem's Lot
  • Cycle Of The Werewolf
  • Pet Sematary
  • IT
  • The Stand
  • Carrie
  • Misery
  • Danse Macabre
  • Nightmares & Dreamscapes
  • The Shining
I would need about a year and a half's worth of Halloween's back to back in order to read all that!  It's an interesting list, though worth noting that King doesn't utilize Halloween in his writing.  He is actually much less interested in dates than he is the story.

Five Movies That Scared Me As A Little Kid
RGJ.com
  • Associated Press writer Chrsitie Lemire gives us the following list:
  • The Shining
  • The Exorcist
  • The Amityville Horror
  • Fantasia
  • The Wizard Of Oz

For me, it was the freaky bald earless Martians in the TV mini-series "The Martian Chronicles."

About The Shining, Lemire writes: "I have no idea what my parents were thinking letting me see this movie -- and read the Stephen King novel that inspired it -- but it remains, in my opinion, the scariest movie ever made. A lot of that has to do with Stanley Kubrick's bold, startling visuals. A lot of that has to do with the unwanted psychic images that flash into young Danny's mind -- you're a kid, maybe that could happen to you, too. And then, of course, there's the notion of your father, the man you trust, losing his mind and turning on you and your mother. It didn't help that my dad looked vaguely like Jack Nicholson back then, and he'd stand in the doorway maniacally snarling, "Here's Daddy!" just to mess with me. Yeah. Good times.
