Remember at the end of Carrie a hand reached up from the grave? It was just a dream, right? Well, maybe Carrie just isn't dead yet!
Hollywood Reporter offers this news: "MGM and Screen Gems are partnering up for the new take on the Stephen King book and have hired Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark playwright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa to pen the new script."
Of course, Carrie was brought to screen in 1979. Then there was Rage, Carrie 2. Then there was the Carrie miniseries, which I liked a lot. But, in case the story hasn't already been told. . . why not! Another carrie. Great.
So, it scores up like this:
Carrie: 4 Dark Tower: 0

I liked the miniseries as well. Carrie is easier to make, it requires less special effects, it is set on normal Earth (more or less) and is short.
ReplyDeleteWell, the gunslinger is: A guy in the desert. A guy in a western town. A guy in a mine. A guy on a mountain. Not heavy duty special effects until somewhere around Wastelands.
ReplyDelete"Carrie" is one of my favorite King novels, and though I like parts of the DePalma film, and I like parts of the NBC movie, and even like parts of "The Rage: Carrie 2" ... none of them really capture the soul of the novel.
ReplyDeleteSo in my opinion, it is potentially a good thing that the book is being adapted again. Get the right director and the right cast (they're already on the right track with the screenwriter) and it could be really great.
