Stephen King recently said that though he doesn't see the reason for a new Carrie movie, it would be "fun to cast." His suggestion for Carrie White -- how about Lindsay Lohan? (I assume he's wanting her to play Carrie. She seems more like Sue Snell to me).

Apparently, tons of entertainment new ssites are "reporting" on King's mention of Lindsey Lohan as if he was actually endorsing her for the role. I guess they must not be on the same page with me, because I could only read what King said in one way, namely as a satirical comment.
ReplyDeleteAnd anyways, she'd be horrible. She's a good actress -- used to be, at least -- but she's a decade too old for the part, and looks another decade older on top of that, thanks to her hard livin'.
My pick (though she would be too young, should the director go in a graphic direction in depicting the shower scene): Hailee Steinfeld. She was awesome -- and that's not an overstatement -- in the Coens' "True Grit." She's also odd-looking enough that she could convincingly play ugly, but beautiful enough that she could pull off Carrie's seeming transformation in Tommy's eyes.
And for the role of Margaret: Melissa McCarthy. I just saw her in "Birdesmaids," in which she is devastatingly funny. Based on that, I'd say she's probably also got a devastatingly scary dramatic performance in her somewhere, and this would be a great movie to see it in.
But really, I'll just be happy as long as Margaret isn't played for camp value, the way Piper Laurie did in the DePalma film. I know a lot of people love her in it. I don't; I think she sucks, quite frankly.
So yeah, I've got Hailee Steinfeld and Melissa McCarthy. You get those genius suggestions for free, Hollywood.
You're welcome.
