    I wish I liked those comics more. The adaptation is quite faithful, and the art is sometimes very effective, but the art is also sometimes quite poor. I do not like the way Perkins draws characters at all. He does a lot of drawing them with weird expressions on their faces, in what I assume to be an attempt to signal emotion; it ends up just looking goofy.

    And I REALLY don't like the depiction of Flagg. It's supposed to be menacing but it typically ends up looking ridiculous.

    But still, I've bought every issue, and will buy the inevitable omnibus edition when it comes out.

    I read The Stand (book form) many years ago and am now beginning to read the comic book adaptation. I feel the art in general is very good but I agree with the above poster, Bryan, that the depiction of Randal Flagg is a bit off. I always thought he was evil-looking, yes, but also charismatic. In the comic he just looks like a maniac.

    Luis, that's a pretty good explanation of EXACTLY why I don't like the way Flagg is portrayed in the comics. It's almost like every panel he's in, Perkins is drawing it as a huge reveal of how Evil and Horrible and Scary he is. It just doesn't work for me.

    I shouldn't rag on Perkins too much, though. I'm not a fan of his character work, but his stuff -- his non-character stuff, at least -- is frequently very good.

    All in all, I still think the series was well worth doing, and well worth checking out for people who are major fans of the novel. If Marvel adapts more King novels, I'll definitely read them.
