  1. I'm assuming it was intentional, but you left off "The Lawnmower Man." Sure, I know, King sued to have his name removed; but it still counts in my book. So does "Lawnmower Man 2," which is just a dreadful, awful, terrible piece of crap.

Looks like you also left off most of the sequels to movies like "Children of the Corn" and "Sometimes They Come Back." Can't say I blame you for that, although if your rationale was that they have little to nothing to do with King's books/stories, I'd say "A Return to Salem's Lot" also ought to be removed.

    Also missing:

"The Revelations of 'Becka Paulson," the 1997 episode of "The Outer Limits"

"Firestarter 2: Rekindled" -- I'd say it belongs on the list if "The Rage: Carrie 2" is on it

    "The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer"

the remake of "Children of the Corn"

    Also, one correction:

"Desperation" was not a miniseries; it was a one-night movie

One final note: I don't remember where I read this -- I think it was on Ain't It Cool, but I'm not sure -- but I once read a guy who wrote a thing saying how he personally viewed the Pixar movie "Cars" as a sort of unofficial sequel to "Maximum Overdrive," set years after the final victory of the machines! Silly, but amusing to consider.

  2. I always liked Night Flier, thought it was a very good adaptation as well as a good movie.

Cat from Hell was a segment in the Tales of the Darkside movie. I'm really glad SK put that in JPS collection b/c the story (although one note) is way better.

I think Haven is a great show.

Desperation was a mini series, it was 2 nights.

  3. Bryant. . . thanks for all the help on the list! I can't believe the last year has been so full of news, with no really recent movies to actually come out.

Mike, I like Night Flier, too.

I'll dig around and see if Desperation is considered television or mini-series. I do remember that King was upset about the time slot it was given. Personally, I enjoy the beginning of Desperation -- but it runs out of steam 2/3 of the way through.

  4. Yea, it sucks no new movies, but at least there weren't movies to just to have sk movies.
The Mist and 1408 are quality movies in their own right not just great SK adaptations. I'd rather have quality movies every couple of years then 5 terrible ones a year.
    Great site David.

  5. Mike,

My apologies in advance for correcting your correction, but "Desperation" was definitely NOT a miniseries. It aired in a single three-hour block on May 23, 2006.

No need to take my word for it, though: the excellent news archive at Lilja's will answer any questions you might have. I have provided a link to the May 2006 archive:

    1. Nope, nothing wrong here...

There was a television remake of "Carrie" that aired on NBC in 2002. TV versions of "Salem's Lot" aired in 1979 and (a remake) in 2004.
