Stephen King’s Dark Tower book series has been through a bit of a journey on its way to the screen. Lost co-creator J.J. Abrams’s company Bad Robot originally held the rights to it, hoping to adapt it into a TV series. Abrams then returned the rights to the author, according the The Washington Post.

Now, Ron Howard is looking to acquire them for a film. Howard is teaming with producers Brian Grazer and Akiva Goldsman on the project, reuniting the trio who was behind such movies as A Beautiful Mind and The Da Vinci Code. King is currently working on writing the eighth installment of the fantasy Western series.
