It's not one of new favorite novels by King or anything like that, but I did enjoy it, and I think I agree that it's better than "Mr. Mercedes."Bryant Burnettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01189356171455609865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1175798629534874434.post-457124765187415122015-08-31T22:30:01.921-07:002015-08-31T22:30:01.921-07:00Hi Bryant. Then it turns..."I thought mama bear was dead. Then it turns out to be -- A SCALP WOUND?" -- I did not care for that at all. It felt like King pulling his punches, which he has rarely done.

"Hodges. Did he need to be in this book?" -- He really didn't, did he? But I didn't begrudge him the time; I like Hodges.

"Would a real teenage boy be able to pull off half of what Peter does in the novel?" -- Not even vaguely. I could buy it to a degree, I guess, but it really doesn't bear a lot of scrutiny.

"The ending, which has a splash of telekinesis, is the only place I can think of where the paranormal has entered the trilogy." -- I'm frustrated by the fact that the series is going in that direction. But I'm also willing to give King the benefit of the doubt and assume he'll be able to make it all work in the third novel. Which I still wish was called "The Suicide Prince," although I also wish it didn't have such unpleasant new associations for you personally.Bryant Burnettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01189356171455609865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1175798629534874434.post-81506650939606832792015-08-30T21:03:47.947-07:002015-08-30T21:03:47.947-07:00I'm really okay with Hodges. I didn't post this, but a friend of mine took their life recently and I was part of that service. That's really hard. Hard beyond belief for their loved ones. Now every time the word suicide comes up, I'm on edge and sad.David Squyreshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16632008924923459612noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1175798629534874434.post-36845417002567356942015-08-30T20:18:24.147-07:002015-08-30T20:18:24.147-07:00The only real complaint I have, as I said before, ...The only real complaint I have, as I said before, is the one you mention about Hodges being in the novel at all.

I really do think this novel would have been better as a stand-alone work, rather than something tacked onto a larger saga (if that's the word).

ChrisC PrisonerNumber6https://www.blogger.com/profile/03156430802462353459noreply@blogger.com
